Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Elkhorn District Curriculum
The math curriculum in Elkhorn is guided by the Common Core State Standards. Elementary school learners are introduced to the concept of operations. After learning addition and subtraction, students become adept and completing operations that involve multiplication and division. Likewise, students learn how to multiply and divide within 100. Fractions are introduced as well, with students developing the understanding of fractional notation. Measurement and data is also a central area of study in the elementary math curriculum. Problems associated with time, volume, and mass are undertaken, and learners explore various geometric properties such as perimeter and area as well.
Elkhorn’s health science curriculum is part of the larger career-technical curriculum that introduces students to a variety of careers-based information. In health sciences, students are exposed to the skills required for employment in a healthcare environment. Learners participate in a self-assessment of skills and aptitudes in order to compare what they are capable of doing to what is required to enter the healthcare field. Chalk Talk: ACT Test Prep Tips
There are a host of methods students can use in order to ensure they perform at their best on the ACT. Getting lots of practice in ahead of time is one of the best approaches to success. There are countless online and print materials that familiarize students with the structure of the test, the manner in which directions are worded, and the type of questions they can expect to see on the exam. Another key factor in testing success is to get a good night’s rest. Although the stress associated with taking the ACT can make it difficult to sleep, it is important that your child goes to bed at a reasonable hour and tries to get as much rest as possible. The morning of the test, your child should eat a good breakfast so his or her brain has the fuel it needs to tackle the complex questions on the test.
