Elkridge District and Curriculum

The Howard County Public School system is the only public school district serving the children of Elkridge. Despite being a large district with over 51,000 students, the primary mission remains to attend to the individual needs of each student by encouraging them to explore their interests and empowering them with essential knowledge and skills. At each of the district’s 76 school buildings, faculty and staff work hard to provide children with the support they need to be successful, while still challenging them to go beyond their comfort zone.

We currently cover the following Elkridge-area school district: Howard County Public Schools.

Chalk Talk: Advantages of a Flipped Classroom

In a flipped classroom, students take on more responsibility for what they learn. This usually means their teacher prepares or finds content for students to engage with outside of class. Students might be asked to listen to a podcast on iTunes or watch a video on YouTube to prepare for the next day’s lesson. The purpose of sending content home with kids is that they can begin the process of learning about a concept before coming to class. This shortens the amount of time teachers have to spend introducing a topic, and frees up class time to reinforce concepts or dive deeper into the subject matter. Although kids will spend more time at home doing homework, the work required in a flipped classroom isn’t homework in a traditional sense. Activities are generally interactive on some level, and often utilize technology that kids are so accustomed to using.
