Chalk Talk: How to Apply for Scholarships
One way to get money to pay for college is through scholarships. Occasionally, good scholarships come knocking on your door. But more often than not, these scholarships should be sought out. When looking for scholarships, start local. Your school guidance counselor should be able to help you. They may have websites or resources to point you to. Consider what makes you unique. Do you have stellar grades? Do you play a sport really well? Are you involved in your community or in leadership? Are you in National Honor Society or other clubs which are nationally recognized? Have you won awards? Are you a musician, actor, artist or dancer? These are the things to focus on when looking for scholarships. Find scholarships that target your talents. When you come to scholarships which ask for an essay, write an essay specifically for that scholarship. Read the guidelines carefully and answer their questions. These people are giving away money, and they want to make sure it is going to the right person.
