Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Elmwood Park District Curriculum
The curriculum is based on the Illinois Common Core Standards, an internationally competitive curriculum intended to offer all students the same rigorous educational opportunities, regardless of location. The curriculum teaches students to read for comprehension and synthesis, to use a variety of techniques, resources, and technology to gather information, and to collect, organize, analyze, and retain information.
Students are molded into critical thinkers who use critical and analytical thinking to solve problems. This involves evaluating and refining strategies to find the best solutions. Students are also taught to transfer their acquired knowledge to life experiences whenever possible. Students are expected to be effective communicators who observe attentively, speak effectively, write clearly and expressively, and demonstrate good listening skills.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

Chalk Talk: College Application Types
There are four primary types of college applications with varying deadlines and requirements for students. The most common is Regular Decision. These applications don’t have any special requirements, other than the application, transcripts, standardized test scores, recommendations, and any other accompanying documents like resumes. Another type of application is Rolling. The difference between Rolling and Regular Decision is that colleges set a deadline for applications, but even if you turn it in early, they still won’t read it until the deadline has passed. With Rolling, colleges read the application as soon as a student sends it, so response times tend to be fairly quick. A third application type is Early Action. Early Action applications have an earlier deadline, and therefore decisions tend to be somewhat quick. Deadlines might be as early as November 1st or 15th. Early Decision is the fourth kind of application. This is very similar to Early Action, except that it’s binding; students sign a contract, along with parents, stating that they agree to attend this college if accepted.
