Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Emmaus District Curriculum

Students in grades Kindergarten through five are given a solid grounding in English and math as well as science and social studies. Students are also introduced to technology through their library class and they are provided with physical education, art and music classes. These courses are all designed and taught to give student the educational and social grounding that they will need in the future. In these classes, students are also encouraged to use critical thinking skills.

Grades six through twelve provide students with continued development of the things they learned in Kindergarten through fifth grade. In these higher grades, however, more depth and options are offered to students. They can take honors, language, computer, family and consumer science courses and others. At the high school level, students can take Advanced Placement or dual enrollment courses with a local college, as well as specialize their electives to fit into their future career plans.

Chalk Talk: How to Pick the Best College For You

College Fairs, college searches, scholarship contests, college applications, all of these things and more contribute in the great search for your perfect college experience. But with so much riding on this one decision and so many factors involved in the choosing, this is a little more complicated than showing up at your local high school for the yearly registration day. With that in mind, here are a few tips for picking your school. First off, remember that, while it may be possible for you to get into your dream school, it may be completely adequate and far more feasible to go to another good school that will provide the degree and skills you need without costing a fortune. Starting local can be best. Your local community college can provide the first two years of college for a greatly discounted price at which time you can transfer to a four year school. In any case, make sure that whatever college you choose provides the degree program you want.
