Enoch District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The district follows Utah Core Standards which establish the framework for learning in Math, Language Arts and guides the outline for other core subjects. The goal is to develop the fundamentals early, and then build upon the skills and knowledge central to each subject so that by high school students are ready for advanced work. Other goals of the curriculum include the development of critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.
We currently cover the following Enoch-area school district: Iron County School District.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Enoch District Curriculum
The curriculum uses a scaffolded approach to teaching and learning. In English Language Arts, the major strands of reading and writing, as well as other modes of communication, research and media studies are compounded over the years. The reading strategies that students develop include word study, looking for key points and guiding ideas, and being able to evaluate and synthesize various texts to come to one own's opinion or interpretation.
The writing curriculum requires that students respond to the texts they read and also take opportunities to write creatively or reflectively. Students are also taught to write in persuasive and informational formats, and use their research skills in both. Students are expected to reference the work they use properly and understand the function of footnotes and bibliographies. The presentation of student work is also sought in the curricular objectives.

Chalk Talk: The Emphasis on Writing
It may seem that students do more writing now than in previous generations; certainly the advent of writing assessments on the SAT and statewide assessments suggest that it is a topic being focused on in the schools. There are many purposes for this - written communication is essential to post-secondary success and students should be proficient by graduation in these skills. Writing also helps students demonstrate what they know and gives them a chance to reflect on their knowledge, which many teachers use as a teaching tool. Another reason is that students need to be literate in different subjects so writing assignments in science or history are also common. The goal is to prepare students for post-secondary academics and the demands of the workplace, and so the emphasis on writing is here to stay.
