Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Erlanger District Curriculum

In Mathematics, students are expected to learn the core concepts as the grades progress. Numbers are introduced in early years and then students learn to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use fractions. Algebra and geometry are introduced early and taught throughout the grades. Standards are set and your child is expected to meet them in a timely way. In Science, students are expected to use inquiry and evidence to learn about the world. Units of study are built on a standards base that students are expected to achieve. Environmental science is an important component of all the science programs.

In English/Language Arts, the disciplines of reading, writing, speaking, listening, inquiring, observing and communication using technology are stressed. In reading, the students are exposed to many types of text including fiction and non-fiction. Technology use is emphasized throughout the curriculum. Writing is particularly stressed and students are continually marked on their writing progress throughout the grades.
