Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Eureka District Curriculum
In Language Arts, students are taught how to read literary and informational texts, to write for a range of purposes, to use a writing process, and to listen and speak with critical thinking skills. In the Sciences, students are instructed in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science and technology. Student learning in Math details the skills of numeracy, algebra, geometry and data analysis each year. For students who participate in small learning communities or charter schools, the curriculum also specifies areas of focus for the program.
This broad framework for all subjects prepares students for the next steps in their education because it establishes the basis for critical thinking, process-oriented thinking and problem-solving and reasoning type thinking.
