Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Eureka District Curriculum

The primary goal of the school is student success for all. Faculty collaborate to develop teaching strategies with student success as the primary focus so that lessons are individually focused on the needs of students. The Eureka High School, in partnership with students, parents and community, strives to ensure all students the opportunity to gain academic success and positive social and interpersonal skills by creating a learning environment that encourages the development of 21st century skills like innovative and collaborative thinking.

Students are challenged to become critical thinkers and life-long learners as well as productive citizens in a diverse and ever changing society. Courses allow students to take an analytic approach to their learning because they build on skills and knowledge gained during the early years. This reflective and progressive approach allows students to have a strong base of knowledge on which to reflect and analyze.

Chalk Talk: Regular Decision

A Regular Decision college application is a straightforward thing with no bels or whistles. The deadline might vary; December 1st is the traditional deadline, but many colleges have pushed theirs back into January or even later. One drawback to this is that colleges tend not to make decisions on students until after the deadline has passed, so you might be waiting a couple months, at least, for a decision. Usually, a Regular Decision application requires the application, itself, which is mostly composed of demographic and factual information; one or more essay, usually from a prompt; several possible shorter essays, ranging from a gauge of the student’s interest in the school to questions about any special needs or accommodations; one to three letters of recommendation; an optional resume; and a transcript, accompanied by a high school profile.
