Evansville District and Curriculum
Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) follows the curriculum prescribed by the Indiana Department of Education. For students to make informed decisions about their lives and make contributions to their communities, they require more in terms of knowledge and skills than ever before. We follow the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English/Language Arts and Mathematics in which the curriculum provides a clear understanding of the skills that students are expected to learn at each grade level. At EVSC, students are assigned learning tools for the school year, including textbooks and in grades 6 – 12, a notebook computer.
We currently cover the following Evansville-area school district: Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Evansville District Curriculum
All students enrolled at EVSC initially take the home language survey to determine their native language and later an evaluation of the English proficiency levels. The English and Language Art curriculum provides fundamental skills for lifelong learning and problem solving in today’s multifaceted technological world.
The Mathematics curriculum of EVSC is based on Indiana’s Common Core Standards (INCC). One of the goals for Mathematics is that students should be able to do, understand and apply mathematics, both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers and students must shift their thinking about elements that constitute an effective mathematics classroom. Parental involvement is an essential element of this program. The aim of the Science curriculum is to facilitate students in developing fundamental knowledge that generates interest in studying science at later grade levels. The teacher training programs and curriculum design are reflective of the commitment towards promoting the study of science. Scientific literacy is a necessity for every student in the Evansville community.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Early Childhood Education
The future of each individual in a community is based upon the education they have received. The development of a child's mind begins with his birth, long before he enters a school. 85% of a child's brain capacity is developed within the first five years of his life. This is a very critical time for development of the brain and the subsequent success in school and practical life. Parents play a key role in providing a nurturing environment during the early years of a child. Parents must make informed decisions while selecting daycare or pre-school for their infant.
