The core curriculum is standards-based and each subject focuses on major topics and develops students knowledge in them over the course of their school years. For instance, the English language arts curriculum brings about the critical skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking, conducting research and viewing media. Chalk Talk: Damage Control
Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes can have long-term effects. When applying to college, some students might think that mistakes they’ve made will keep them from being accepted, but this isn’t always the case. Sometimes, these mistakes are understandable, especially when triggered by outside factors. Even when there isn’t an easy way to understand the reasons for a student having a bad year, if the student has recovered and dedicated him/herself to academic success, many colleges are willing to give the student a second chance. But the situation must be explained to them in a way they can understand. Often, an interview or an additional essay can do the trick. Colleges most often look at trends on a student’s transcript. If they believe the student is willing to work hard and do better, they can be very forgiving, but the key to making the case for this is tone. Being flippant can do irreparable damage, of course, being insincerely serious can also hurt. If the student is sincere, s/he should be able to make a convincing case for him/herself.
