Chalk Talk: Social Media

Because technology is so much a part of learning and non-school time, children and teens are always influenced by what they can do or find with technological tools. Social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and many others, have become sources of information. From connecting and communicating with friends to latest news or updates, anyone can really find out anything. The most important factor is whether your child should be using social media for their age. If so, the next consideration is whether the sources and information is appropriate for your child. Have a discussion with your child about social media and their intentions for going on those sites. You should also discuss how much of their time should be spent on the sites. Your child or teen may not be willing to have the conversation or may reassure you of their intentions or interests. Making time for a discussion about social media with your child can prevent any concerns later on as well as form or continue communication between you and your child.
