Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fairfield District Curriculum

The curriculum of Fairfield City School District focuses on the Alabama State Standards, and utilizes many teaching techniques to ensure children receive the best education possible. Regular use of technology is incorporated into daily instruction in many of the courses. Children are exposed to a variety of teaching styles, many classes to choose from, and modern facilities, all while receiving a top-notch education.

In Science, hands-on learning is crucial for children to learn in discovery. The instructors foster this discovery and critical thinking by promoting small group learning and project-based learning through the most recent methods in instruction. Practicing the responsible usage and appreciation of the natural resources, using technology in daily instruction, and incorporating the scientific theories and knowledge creates scientifically literate students.

Chalk Talk: What is an Alternative School?

Fairfield City School District has an alternative school for students who need this option. An alternative school is a school which differs from a traditional public school. It may serve a certain population of students, such as special education students (although many of them are mainstreamed in the traditional school) whose parents feel they can benefit from a different more student-centered classroom. Also, alternative education can serve students who have difficulty finding success in the public school, such as with behavior or other issues. Oftentimes, finding a smaller environment where students receive more individualized attention has been successful for students to succeed with their academics.
