Both Lovejoy Independent School District and McKinney Independent School District use the state-adopted Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge (TEKS) curricular guidelines. The TEKS subject-specific frameworks provide objectives that form a logical scope and sequence for learning in each subject. Beyond the core subjects, these frameworks are also provided for Languages Other Than English, the Fine Arts, Health Education, Career Development, and Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fairview District Curriculum
Chemistry is one area of focus in the Science curriculum. Students begin by learning about the scientific process and how to maintain safe practices during laboratory investigations. They learn about concepts such as differentiating between physical and chemical changes and classifying matter as pure substances or mixtures. They also work with the Periodic Table and develop an understanding of the properties of chemical families and periodic trends, including atomic and ionic radii and electronegativity.
Geometry is a part of the mathematics curriculum and offers students the chance to study advanced spatial relations and geometric principles. Students are expected to be able to analyze information, form a plan or strategy, determine and justify a solution, and evaluate the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution. By teaching students how to use a methodical approach to problem-solving, they are able to attend to precision while also being able to communicate mathematical ideas and reasoning.
