Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fillmore District Curriculum

In Language Arts, reading literature and non-fiction and the skills needed for comprehension and interpretation are described. Writing is a major curricular focus and the development of writing processes and an understanding of the different forms of writing, like expository or persuasive writing, are laid out. The problem-solving skill sets developed in geometry, algebraic operations and data analysis are detailed clearly with the framework for math.

In the Sciences, scientific thinking and processes are taught through the subject areas of environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics and advanced topics in engineering and technology. These core courses help students develop essential thinking skills like analytic thought, process-oriented thinking, and logical reasoning.

Keeping Informed: Recent Fillmore Educational News

  • Community Support - The Ventura County Community Foundation has developed a strong outreach component in the scholarships they award to students in the community. This support is made possible by the efforts of family and business members who recognize the importance of community support to the schools.
  • 4-H Activities - The 4-H Club has a number of events at the county fair which is held annually in August. This is an event for which students put in a great deal of time and effort, and the fun of a county fair is a destination for the whole family.
  • Activities for Families - The district offers a list of many different activities that parents can do with their children. The goal is not all about education, grades and testing - the purpose of the list provided by the district is simply to give parents ideas about activities they can do with their kids.
