Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Fitchburg District Curriculum

Other subject areas and programs, such as 4 year old Kindergarten, Health and Physical Education, and Art are taught under standards set by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Student learning in all subjects and programs involves what all children should know and be able to do as well as a demonstrating understanding of expectations. This school system uses its smaller size to promote curricular integration and cross-disciplinary studies in order to promote inquisitive minds.

The three school districts provide students with diverse learning opportunities and personalized learning experiences to develop creativity and attain knowledge of college and career readiness and 21st Century Skills. The Oregon School District recently began entering curriculum into an online program (Build Your Own Curriculum) that gives parents access to view general content of each course entered by teachers. The other school districts offer a similar curricular component on their district website.

Chalk Talk: Registration vs. Enrollment

Schools and school districts are always reminding parents to register and enroll their child in the appropriate school. However, understanding which needs to be done and at what time can be confusing. Registration is a one-time process in which you provide your child's information so he or she is recorded as a student in their district. If new to the area or move to a different district within Fitchburg, parents must register their child with the appropriate district. Parents only need to register their child one time – at the beginning of their child’s schooling at the school or school district they will be attending. Enrollment is done every year for each upcoming school year. Parents are required to enroll their child at their intended school. Whether your child is or will be in elementary, middle or high school, parents should make sure he or she is enrolled and in the district’s system. Both registration and enrollment ensure your child is recognized and included as a student of the school.
