Chalk Talk: The Importance of Early Detection and Intervention of Learning Disabilities

When a parent or teacher of a young child becomes concerned about a child's development or progress in school, it is vitally important that they speak up. Studies have shown that many young children in the early pre-school years, who may have a delay in language development, fine and gross motor abilities or attention, very often are diagnosed with a learning disability later on in school. Detecting the problem early is essential to the child's success. Parents should not wait for negative behaviors to appear, or for that child to fail. It is vitally important to detect any issues, have the child assessed or obtain a diagnosis and begin an appropriate program of intervention: the earlier the better to put the child on the road to success.
