Keeping Informed: Recent Foley Educational News

  • Kangaroo Kraziness - Australia was the continent and country of choice for the gifted students of Foley Intermediate School. They went on an expedition to the Exploreum where they visited dingos, kangaroos, kookaburras, and other animals from Australia. An IMAX theater presentation was given about this fascinating land, and it was extremely realistic; it was like the students were really there.
  • Starlight Grants - Two teachers, Mrs. Loy and Mrs. Winberg won grants from the power company in Baldwin County. These Starlight Grants, at almost $1000 a piece, are going to help the school tremendously. The funds will go towards purchasing non-fiction books for the media center in the areas of Science and Social Studies, and for Reading Literacy Centers in a first grade classroom.
  • Videos For Parents - Parents can now view a plethora of information online through Baldwin County Schools. There are many videos to watch that pertain to tips for studying, how to help children in the classroom, general information about the school system, and up-to-date information to keep parents informed. Chalk Talk: How Parents Can Get Involved in their Child's School

If you would like to get involved in your child's school there are many ways to do so. One way to get involved is to volunteer. Signing up to volunteer will give you the opportunity to help in your child's classroom and with school functions, such as festivals, picture days, celebrations, and more. Go to your child's school and sign up to be a volunteer or talk with your child's teacher. Most likely, the teacher will be thrilled to have you onboard, and will want to set you up on a weekly schedule. Either way, talking to the school and telling them that you are interested in helping will get you on your way to being an actively involved parent. Parent helpers are very much appreciated by all!
