Chalk Talk: The Importance of Parental Involvement in their Child’s School

For many years, educators have been encouraging parents to get involved, to visit the classroom, to volunteer at their child’s school. According to recent educational research, schools are beginning to see the benefits of parental involvement in their children’s school. When parents are involved in their children’s education and school community, the children are presenting with higher standardized test grades, higher classroom grades, behaving better at home and at school, and showing better social skills. This is encouraging news for parents and children. Parents can be involved with their children’s education in little ways such as by providing a learning environment at home, celebrating the child’s academic achievement, and communicating frequently with his or her teacher.
