Gainesville District and Curriculum

Gainesville City Schools have begun implementing the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards during the 2012-2013 school year. These new standards are focused on preparing students for life after high school. Through using these standards students will be learning the same material as students from all around the nation. These standards focus heavily on communication, both written and spoken, as well as the development of a deep understanding of Math as these are skills that are vital to success in the world outside of the high school classroom.

We currently cover the following Gainesville-area school district: Gainesville City Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Gainesville District Curriculum

The districts goals are to teach in a consistent manner so that each student is learning all necessary skills regardless of the teacher that they are assigned. Through the use of the Common Core there are no gaps in student learning. Each teacher is responsible for the using the same instructional expectations as their counterparts around the country. Through offering a wide variety of courses this district hopes to reach each student by giving them the chance to explore their own unique interests and develop skills which they excel in.

Curriculum areas are Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts. The focus across each area is complete literacy. This means that regardless of the class or subject students will be required to read and write about the subject that they are studying. In Math, they will be reading and writing about math and the same will hold true in Science, and Social Studies.

Chalk Talk: Helping Kids to Manage Stress

Children in our society are faced with stressors that did not exist even a decade age. Through the media they deal with new fears and inside the walls of their schools they are exposed to reminders of danger. Often times this negative input can cause anxiety and stress in children. In order to address these issues there are a few recommendations. When bad things happen and they will talk with your child. Communication is vital to healthy development. Allow them to express their concerns then help them work through it. Maybe it is as simple as talking about what is bothering them or helping them to formulate a plan. There will always be accidents and difficulties. However, you can make a huge difference simply by allowing your child to communicate and taking their concerns seriously.
