Jefferson County Schools has a large span of science electives to choose from. The core classes of science that go from grades K-8 are very structured and follow the Standards of Learning in Alabama. Keeping Informed: Recent Gardendale Educational News

  • Stuffed Animals for a Cause - Students at Pinson Elementary did more than just a food drive this year; they incorporated stuffed animals into the mix! Not only will families receive food items for their holidays, but the children will be gifted with a stuffed toy, all to bring joy to the holiday season. Pinson collected over 1,000 cans of food for their local food bank.
  • MacArthur Fellow Honor - S. Patel, a computer scientist and a graduate of Jefferson County Schools has invented a very low cost and effective sensor system used to track energy consumption in residences. He has been honored with the MacArthur Fellow award and was given a whopping $500,000 for a grant! What a huge accomplishment from this 29 year old!
  • College Goal Sunday - Attend a College Sunday Goal event to get no cost assistance from an expert on filling out the FAFSA form. This is the student financial aid form, and can be quite complicated to fill out. Attending this event will also grant access to free advice for aid, admission, college tips, and more! A list of quality online resources will also be given to help students getting ready to choose their college or university.
