Geneseo District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
The Geneseo Community Unit School District believes in maintaining high expectations for academic achievement in a safe and caring environment using effective and efficient operations. The school believes that all students should be given opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background or learning style. For students to take advantage of these opportunities, they have to feel confident and empowered enough to believe success is an option. Teachers try to individualize their lessons as much as possible to meet the needs of each student, whether that means helping a student catch up to grade level or offering more advanced work for a high-achieving student.
We currently cover the following Geneseo-area school district: Geneseo Community Unit School District 228.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Geneseo District Curriculum
The Illinois Learning Standards curriculum provides students with clear expectations not only for how they should build knowledge but for critical thinking expectations. In math, students develop logical and quantitative reasoning skills which are used to make many practical decisions in life. In science, students develop their scientific reasoning and process approach to coming to conclusions. In history and social studies, students gain an awareness of the circumstances by which current events occur.
Students are expected to make healthy, positive life choices which demonstrate respect for themselves and others. Diversity is highly valued. Students are taught to operate in group settings while remaining respectful to the opinions of others. Students are offered many extracurricular activities as well including community service opportunities. The school believes that service teaches valuable perspectives and will lead to students becoming engaged, active citizens and members of their own community.

Chalk Talk: Characteristics of Development in Adolescence
As children develop into adolescence, there go through many changes. Each of these characteristics can be difficult for them to understand. Parents can help them to go through these changes by showing concern. Physically, the changes teens go through are due to genetics, environment and health. This is also a time when the difference between males and females become more obvious in the area of size, strength and the age growth begins. Friends begin to become more important to the child than the parents. they begin to meet with friends more often without the parent's presence. Even though teens are able to make choices at this age, these choices may depend on pleasing their peers. With parents aware of the challenges and changes facing the students, they can leave the lines of communication open so the teen can come to them if confused or in need of assistance.
