Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Glasgow District Curriculum

In Reading, students are exposed to a variety of reading materials. There is a core set of standards and students are expected to meet these for the grade level covering comprehension, vocabulary development, understanding of language and communication of ideas. Your child will be assessed regularly to see that they are meeting these standards using assessments that directly reference the appropriate curricular standards. Writing is also a significant focus, and students are expected to use formal English and develop a sense of purpose and audience for their written work.

In Science, your child is also required to meet curricular standards. Inquiring is an important skill in science studies. Students conduct experiments and explore concepts to find the evidence of things as they exist in the world. Students study the environment extensively in science classes in Kentucky. They are required to report on their findings in lab reports and other types of documentation or exhibitions.
