Glenarden District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Glenarden schools, like the rest of Maryland’s schools, is moving to the Common Core Curriculum, which is now the state curriculum for Maryland. The Common Core Curriculum ensures that students across Maryland receive the same quality educational opportunities. The curriculum is evidence based and rigorous in its academic coursework to prepare students for both the workforce and advanced education.

The curriculum in Language Arts and Reading for all grades is based on a progressive learning program with students learning basic skills in the early grades and then adding to those skills as they progress through school. In the early grades students learn the basics of reading and writing through the use of phonics and other curriculum material. In later grades, the literature becomes more challenging including both contemporary literature and the classics and students must demonstrate reading comprehension both in written form and orally. The writing curriculum includes learning how to write well documented and researched opinion pieces and research reports.

We currently cover the following Glenarden-area school district: Prince George’s County Public Schools.

The curriculum for Math starts with students at the pre-kindergarten and early grades learning basic math including learning their numbers, counting, and moving on to fundamental arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, the use of whole numbers, fractions and decimals. In middle school, students move past fundamentals to tackle geometry, algebra, statistics and probability. High school students learn higher math skills including mathematic modeling and applying the math they know to real world situations.
