Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Glencoe District Curriculum

Among the many learning objectives of the schools in Glencoe, students are expected to become productive and successful worldly citizens that are collaborative, innovative leaders. Core subjects are taught so that students basic learning in the early grades enables them to critically think about the topics with which they are presented.

In Gifted Education, this county school system prides itself in knowing that they are reaching and challenging the gifted learners. While students that are in the Special Education program must have their learning needs met, the gifted students must have their learning needs met as well. Gifted students in this school system in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to attend a highly-modernized center for the gifted one full day per week. The students participate in activities such as engineering, robotics, and many more mathematical and scientific projects.

Chalk Talk: Sparking Motivation

It seems that giving students, no matter the age or grade level, some motivation to do well in school goes a long way. Motivation, such as trips, days of fun, free time, or any other relaxing, stress-free event, can keep the students moving forward in doing their best. Students that are apt to struggle in school, by either lack of motivation or other academic or personal factors, respond well to motivations along the way! Many schools have several motivational events for the students, and many of them respond well to them.
