Curriculum is guided by the PA Core Standards. The PA Core in English Language Arts reflects the demands of college and career ready curriculum by focusing in foundational skills, reading informational text, reading literature, writing, speaking, and listening. The PA Core in Mathematics focuses on both procedural skills and conceptual understanding to guide student learning. Students will focus on numbers and operations, algebraic concepts, geometry, measurement, data, and probability.

There is a greater focus on fewer topics. Teachers and students are now being asked to focus in-depth on certain topics and build a solid foundation of understanding. Gone are the days of covering too many topics only slightly. Another important shift if that of coherence. The standards are now designed to progress from grade to grade.
