Goderich District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The development of abilities begins in each subject with fundamentals such as phonics and word meanings in English, or key facts and figures in History. Math and Science offer students a great amount of content knowledge and opportunities to investigate during the elementary years. Once students enter high school, the secondary curriculum provides a detailed overview of the types of concepts and principles in which students are expected to achieve proficiency. The courses in high school are more rigorously focused within the topics of algebra, geometry, data analysis, pre-Calculus.

We currently cover the following Goderich-area school districts: Avon Maitland District School Board and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Goderich District Curriculum

The options at the secondary level are expanding and incorporating classes that prepare students for technology careers, engineering, health and medical fields, creative and performing arts, and globally-oriented careers. The curriculum anticipates that students will have many choices, and provides the keys to success in the fields which students are able to choose as their future pursuits.

At the secondary level, students have choices between the goal-orientation of the courses they take. All ninth graders take a foundational course in Math which teaches concepts like algebraic and linear equations, geometric functions and spatial reasoning, and ways of understanding and modeling data. Students are able to pursue this on an academic or applied track, focusing in on either the theoretical foundation or the practical applications, respectively. The same is true for Science, and in ninth grade students are introduced to topics like biodiversity, chemistry, and laws of physics in one of these modes.
