Golden District and Curriculum
The Jeffco Public Schools uses the Colorado Academic Standards as the framework for its instructional plan. The framework provides standards for each subject, the critical thinking and conceptual awareness that students should develop, and the real world correlates to the learning students do. The emphasis is on core academics extended by a reach into electives like the arts, technology, language and then further anchored by extended evidence outcomes that ensure a level of proficiency in skills students will need in their post-secondary lives.
We currently cover the following Golden-area school district: Jeffco Public Schools.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Golden District Curriculum
The Math curriculum is based on teaching skills in numerical operations, algebraic thinking, geometry and measurement, and data analysis and statistics. Students amass skills during their elementary school years in each of these topics and then take more in-depth courses in high school. One of the goals is for students to be able to understand the best way to solve any problem, be able to draw upon or create mathematical models to solve problems, and use quantitative reasoning strategies.
The role of technology has flourished both as any area of study, as a support for learning, and as a resource for creating and innovating. Students can take courses in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math that incorporate real world and hands-on learning experiences in robotics, computer programming or coding. For students who are artistically inclined, there is the chance to learn about graphic design programs and take courses in subjects like computer aided design.

Chalk Talk: Current Instructional Technologies
One trend emerging in many classrooms is the use of hyperbooks allow students to travel back and forth—revisiting previously learned material—and connect the information that they have learned during each of the lessons together. Teachers should provide students and parents with access to the hyperbooks at their homes because this can help children who miss school to avoid falling behind. Teachers who wish to create hyperbooks must have experience using technology and have patience, as it can take a long time to create all the hyperlinks and can be easy to make a mistake in the linking; however, the benefits outweigh the limitations. Further, they can be used for years to come, so the time expended in professional development activities such as this are a benefit to a great many students.
