Golden Valley District and Curriculum

K-12 students in Golden Valley have a number of choices when it comes to their public education. Two public districts, Robbinsdale Area Schools and Hopkins Public Schools, offer programming for children in preschool through high school. Golden Valley is also home to Perpich Center for Arts Education, a state-operated arts high school. Regardless of the district in which a child is educated, students participate in top-notch programming that is based on the latest educational research and best practices. Teachers, staff members, and administrators in all three districts strive to create learning environments that are safe, stimulating, and which encourage students to achieve their highest possible potential.

We currently cover the following Golden Valley-area school districts: Hopkins Public Schools and Robbinsdale Area Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Golden Valley District Curriculum

The world languages curriculum begins with vocabulary and grammar development. Once these skills have been mastered, students engage in projects that combine several different methods of communicating. Class presentations get students involved in both speaking and listening, as well as reading and writing activities. Improving a student’s ability to convey information to a large group of people in a second language also helps students improve their interpersonal communication skills.

The middle school arts curriculum in Golden Valley gives students the opportunity to explore the processes of making and creating art. In music, students learn basic musical nomenclature, including the meaning of words and phrases used to direct their musical performance. Students learn about musical notation as well, and gain a basic ability to sight-read music. Students work with various types of music and arrangements, and develop the ability to revise arrangements, compose their own music, and improvise when performing music.

Chalk Talk: How to Prepare for an Exam

Exams loom large in your child’s life, whether it’s a classroom test, a state test, or the ACT or SAT. But exams don’t have to be something that induces stress and worry in your child. One key to helping your child perform at their best on exams is to ensure that they are doing their homework in a timely fashion. Those assignments are meant to prepare kids for their exams, so it’s important that they stay on top of their work. Likewise, it is necessary to be involved in your child’s homework process. Ask questions, see how they’re doing, and check in periodically to ensure they are on task. The night before an exam, your child will need to get a good night’s sleep, because without it, they won’t be able to think as clearly. A good breakfast before going to school will also help keep them sharp and alert so they can perform at their best.
