Granbury District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The Granbury Independent School District follows the expectations set forth in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS provides detailed standards in Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, World Languages, Economics, the Arts, and Career and Technical Education. It sets out grade level expectations that students must meet in order to be prepared for the following year as each year relies on students prior knowledge to continue building their understanding and proficiency in the subject. College and career readiness is also an important factor in the curriculum, and students are expected to learn how to use their library and conduct academic research.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Granbury District Curriculum

The Math curriculum is designed to introduce students to all mathematical topics in preparation for high school, where the courses focus in on specific areas such as algebra, geometry, precalculus and statistics. There are also courses available for students interested in developing a strong math background before college such as Advanced Quantitative Reasoning and Discrete Mathematics. Students may also participate in Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate math courses and can pursue an independent study.

The Science curriculum is formatted in a similar style to the math curriculum in that it introduces students to a variety of topics during elementary and middle school, then hones in on specifics during high school. Students may take courses in Aquatic Science, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Systems and also have the option to take Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses as well. Integrated technology and engineering courses are also available for students considering college academics in engineering.

Chalk Talk: Preparing Teens for High School

There are many things to consider when a child starts high school, starting with planning their course of study. This is also the time to begin considering the extracurricular activities and hobbies that they may want to participate in. The student will want to be preparing for important tests such as the SAT and ACT and may want to consider taking SAT Subject Tests, so the correct steps to register need to be considered. In the summer students should continue taking part in areas of interest or volunteer in an area of interest. Having done these things will help the student have a successful high school career and help them follow their dreams. Also, have them write them down so together the parent and child can find the answers that are needed and the questions are not forgotten while answering another. This is a busy time for teens. There are assignments, tests, activities and more.
