Chalk Talk: Why Extracurricular Activities Are Important

Getting your child involved in extracurricular activities will benefit them greatly both in the short and long-term. Individual or team sports, clubs, and organizations all help kids learn how to prioritize tasks and manage their time. This, in turn, benefits their academic studies and helps them get better grades. Extracurricular activities also help boost self-esteem as kids gain new skills and knowledge and have positive experiences with their peers. Sports and other activities are also great ways for children to make friends and meet other kids they may not otherwise be able to meet. In the long run, participation in extracurricular activities as youth helps people learn how to communicate and collaborate with others, which are essential skills in any workplace. Being able to list numerous activities on college applications and a resume also shows potential schools and employers that a student is more than just a good grade, but someone that is well rounded and has developed skills outside the classroom as well.
