Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Greater Napanee District Curriculum

Language instruction has been designed to teach students how to use and comprehend the language, communicate knowledge and ideas, make connections, recognize and appreciate different perspectives, and to use critical thinking to understand media and other text forms.

The Math curriculum has been developed to start by introducing students to the skill base which they will use in their middle and high school level math courses. Students learn about geometry and spatial awareness, arguments and proofs, algebraic operations functions and expressions, and mathematic modeling in Geometry and Algebra which are offered in either an academic or applied mode.

Science has been designed to teach students processes for hands-on and inquiry-based discovery. Students learn about structures and mechanisms, energy and matter, earth and space, and life systems during elementary school.

Greater Napanee District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

There are many academic options for students in the Greater Napanee districts and they all share the expectation that students will have a base of knowledge in core academic subjects, their concepts, and the ways of thinking they bring about. Core academic subjects like math, science, and Language prepare students with a broad range of literacy skills, strategies for solving problems and communicating new ideas, and processes that bring out analytic and critical thinking skills. Students develop mathematic logic and reasoning skills as well as verbal logic and reasoning skills through their in-depth study of these subjects. Students learn about processes and changes in both Science and History through the content and opportunities for research presented.

We currently cover the following Greater Napanee-area school districts: Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and Limestone District School Board.

Chalk Talk: Why Extracurricular Activities Are Important

Getting your child involved in extracurricular activities will benefit them greatly both in the short and long-term. Individual or team sports, clubs, and organizations all help kids learn how to prioritize tasks and manage their time. This, in turn, benefits their academic studies and helps them get better grades. Extracurricular activities also help boost self-esteem as kids gain new skills and knowledge and have positive experiences with their peers. Sports and other activities are also great ways for children to make friends and meet other kids they may not otherwise be able to meet. In the long run, participation in extracurricular activities as youth helps people learn how to communicate and collaborate with others, which are essential skills in any workplace. Being able to list numerous activities on college applications and a resume also shows potential schools and employers that a student is more than just a good grade, but someone that is well rounded and has developed skills outside the classroom as well.
