Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Green Bay District Curriculum
A primary foci include using data to individualize the curriculum at every level to engage students via efficient use of data that is continually collected in schools across the district. Data is gleaned from various sources, including standardized state-wide summative assessments and formative assessments created by teachers working collaboratively on-site. Data is utilized to determine the most effective instructional techniques, ensure student learning interventions are available, and to provide enrichment opportunities.
Via exposure to such course offerings as the International Baccalaureate (IB) program (available at the middle school level), pre-engineering, business education, and family & consumer science, to name a few, students are encouraged and inspired to achieve. Students at all levels may take advantage of the many opportunities available to them to discover personal interests while simultaneously enhancing skills required for excellence.

West High School and the district will ensure that all teachers are trained to teach in the IB MYP program. Chalk Talk: What Is Gradual Release of Responsibility
Educators in the elementary, middle and high schools adhere to a model of instruction called Gradual Release of Responsibility. Following this technique, teachers first model skills or abilities for students, then provide guided instruction (during which time the teacher and students work closely together), and finally allow students to master the skills independently. The technique is research-based and widely touted to be highly effective because it provides both direct instruction and hands-on application, with the possibility of reinforcing any areas of the subject which a student may need. This is also a great way for students to develop responsibility in their academics and be more able to pursue studies that are interesting to them.
