Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Greenfield District Curriculum

One of the benefits of the curricular program is that it fosters a strong sense of independence and gives students a feeling of ownership over their work. After using the program for a while, students start to become more independent workers in their other subjects as well. There is also the opportunity for students to take more rigorous courses in the Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment programs. Team sports and extracurricular clubs are offered to students at the high school level as well.

Courses in Greenfield schools guide students down a path that encourages active decision-making and excellence in the workplace or in secondary education. Rhythm, spatial awareness, general motor skills, and physical fitness are all improved through physical education classes. In health and wellness classes, course content will include disease prevention, identifying and understanding influences and how to enhance health in positive ways.

Chalk Talk: The Importance of Art in the Schools

The benefits of art education are numerous. For younger children, art instruction can help improve motor skills and language development as they learn shapes, colors, and actions. Improvements in motivation, concentration and even self-confidence have been linked to participation in art-related activities. With these improvements, higher test scores and critical thinking skills, as well as increased independence and teamwork skills have all been noted. At all ages, creativity will be enhanced as well. The making of and consumption of art crosses all boundaries. Students from a lower socioeconomic background are afforded the opportunity to engage in the same enrichment experiences as their higher socioeconomic peers. Language is less of a barrier with art and its instruction as well. Finally, art education can develop cultural awareness and appreciation. Art instruction in the schools provides many benefits both inside and outside of the classroom.
