The standards in mathematics concentrate on a clear set of math skills and concepts, and encourage students to solve real-world problems. Units covered by students in grade 3 mathematics include operations and algebraic thinking, numbers and operations in base 10, fractions, measurement and data, and geometry. The standards emphasize mathematical understanding, and students are encouraged to think about why a mathematical statement is true, or where a mathematical rule comes from. In measurement and data, students draw graphs and interpret the data, such as through doing “how many more” or “how many less” problems. Students also solve problems involving measurement and estimation, such as telling and writing time, and measuring and estimating liquid volumes and masses of objects using grams, kilograms, and litres. Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Greensboro District Curriculum

Technology plays a significant part in the Guilford County School District and is incorporated into the curriculum on all grade levels. Technology has its place in the classrooms for teachers to help their students with advancement on a more global level and to utilize the computer on a more daily and regular basis. Students are able to communicate with other students in their own classrooms and around the school.

Students can take home their computer devices to get homework completed, start a study group with other students, or show their parents what they are being taught in school. Technology in the classrooms for gives all students a chance to compete with other students in areas such as Math and Science. These subjects tend to be challenging, but with access to technology right at their fingertips, students can perform quick searches on the Internet for help and some great visuals for a better understanding of these two subjects.

My teaching philosophy is built upon the foundation of four essential principles that I desire to communicate to every student that I will have the privilege to instruct. The four principles are: (1) Education: Developing mentally, morally, or aesthetically by instruction (2) Inspiration: Drawing forth or bringing out natural gifts and/or talents (3) Equipment: Furnishing with intellectual and emotional resources for future action (4) Empowerment: Igniting as an initiator of change It is these four principles that will provide every student with a firm foundation upon which they can build their lifelong journey of learning.
My goal in life is to keep learning, and trying new things. I believe that one of the most important ways people can better themselves is through education. Everyone has the capacity to learn and everyone deserves the opportunity to fully comprehend the material they’re studying. I believe that people get out of their education what they put into it; if they have a drive to learn, then they will reach their goals!
I believe in the three “R”s: Rigor, Relevance and Relationships. A student should feel comfortable with their instructor and that instructor should provide lessons in a manner which is understandable and has meaning for the student.

International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM)

A famous sit in that happened in Greensboro was in 1960, when four students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University started the Greensboro sit-ins at a “whites only” lunch counter. The next day, there were twenty students. These protests led to the Woolworth’s removing its policy of racial segregation. Chalk Talk: The Importance of Written Communication

Today it matters if you know how to speak and write well enough where everyone can follow along. But even more important is how you come across to someone in written forms of communication. Many people don’t like to write as much as they had to a few years ago, now with the computers in just about everyone’s hands these days, the lingo in this medium is changing and not always understood by many. Learning how to write in cursive or manuscript requires great penmanship at all times. At one time or another these have to be mastered and it is a commitment, much effort and lots of time to put your best writing skills forth no matter if formal or informal communication, one still has to understand what you are trying to convey.
