Gridley District and Curriculum

The California Content and Common Core Standards provide the framework for the instructional process in the schools. This framework guides teacher’s instructional planning as it lays out a particular series of expectations for student learning. These expectations are checked through statewide assessments to ensure that students are prepared for the next year and that instruction has been effective. While the curriculum details the expectations for learning within all subjects, it does not specify the methods a teacher must use to teach each lesson. A range of projects, inquiry-guide learning, and experiential lessons can all serve the goal.

Math and Science are two subjects in the curriculum that are receiving increased attention and resources. Technology is being used to enhance students learning experience, and when students enter high school they will be expected to do advanced learning. In Math, students will learn about complex numbers, modeling strategies, and be provided with a range of strategies required to approach a problem and figure out how to solve it. Similarly, in Science, the processes of inquiry and discovery are focused upon alongside the base scientific knowledge. In high school, students are also able to take more advanced courses, many of which combine technology as a subject of focus.

We currently cover the following Gridley-area school district: Biggs Unified School District, Gridley Unified School District.

Within this, students are also expected to learn grammar and conventions of standard English. Student learning in the Arts, History, World Languages, and other programs are guided by curriculum which detail broad goals and expectations for what students will become able to do and understand. These classes are invaluable in broadening student’s understanding of the people and the world and enhancing the way they perceive information.
