Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Guntersville District Curriculum
Guntersville City Schools is a smaller school system in the State of Alabama. It is fully accredited and has educators that expect success from all students. This district follows the curriculum of the State of Alabama, with has been approved by the No Child Left Behind Act. Of significant focus in the curriculum are the literacy and mathematical abilities developed by students. Literacy is taught across the curriculum, with students receiving the opportunity to read and write in all their subjects.
In the subject of Math, the students are taught from the early grades that critical thinking is imperative. Students learn about numeracy, geometry and measurement, data analysis and algebra over the years, developing the ability to do advanced Math during high school. Teachers demonstrate for students how to critically think and use discovery methods in Math, while also relating it to real-world experiences. Incorporating technology into the Math curriculum is also vital to learning in today's modern society.

Chalk Talk: The Role of an Education Foundation
School systems change a lot from year to year. Teachers have to update and change their techniques to meet the criteria and standards within the curriculum. Curriculum change because new subjects and areas of inquiry become introduced. Assessments show areas where students require additional instruction, and teachers are required to adapt to that information. Like all advancements, teaching and schools are not left out; they always have to try new and modern ideas and strategies.
