Chalk Talk: What Is the Role of Advisory Committees?

For parents who are interested in participating in the schools, the Advisory Committees are a practical, relevant and useful way to contribute time. The schools have a number of committees that oversee different areas of educational policy. There is a Special Education Advisory Committee which helps develop the strategic goals and opportunities available for Special Education Services. There is an Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee which helps develop the ways in which Aboriginal Education will be brought into the curriculum. Some committees focus on the school facilities, and some on curricular priorities. Often the meetings are held in the evenings, which is well-suited for working parents.
