Another main emphasis of the curriculum is the development of critical thinking skills which can be applied to all future work and learning.
We currently cover the following Hamlet-area school districts: Richmond County Schools and Scotland County Schools.
Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Hamlet District Curriculum
Math is a course subject that the district especially works upon. The main focus is to enhance mathematical skills and cognitive abilities of the child by number solving problems, completing patterns and puzzles. The schools use state of the art educational equipment and represent all concepts via that equipment for making the child get a better visual approach towards the solution.
English is another compulsory subject where the curriculum includes all major topics, including punctuation skills, sentence structure, tenses, spelling and grammar. The schools start with the very basic at the elementary level and progressively introduce more complicated concepts as to ensure complete learning by the child. Students learn to identify the plot and main idea in stories, and draw conclusions about the events in a story. They also write personal narratives or informational essays, which must have a main idea, supporting details, proper capitalization, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement.

Chalk Talk: Planning a Course of Study
On reaching high school, students are required to select the courses they prefer to study. This is a difficult process, that of selecting and finalizing what subjects to opt for. Remember, never force your kid to take any course of your choice. Instead, let him/her make their own decision. You as parents must know by this time where your child’s interests mainly lie. Discuss this with your child and come up with the list of subjects he/she is most interested in. Also make sure to see what exactly he/she intends to do in the future, go for Biological Sciences if the child wishes to opt for a medical field and Math and Physics if s/he wishes to opt for an Engineering field. You can consult any guidance counselor for academic counselling for this purpose. Local schools all provide education and career counselling to help students with this.
