Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Havre de Grace District Curriculum
Mathematics education within the Harford County Public School District is aligned with Maryland Content Standards. The goal of the curriculum is to provide the right kind of Math education that gives all the students the ability to be math literate. The Kindergarten through grade twelve programs are based on providing students with Math skills that can be used in the real world, and technology is used to supplement these skills.
At the elementary school level, students are presented with a broad curriculum of basic Math skills including numbers, counting, geometry, algebra patterns, statistics, probability, computation and measurement. Students learn the processes of reasoning and proof as they achieve an understanding of mathematical problem solving. At the middle and high school level, students build on the skills they have learned in elementary school. To graduate all students must pass both algebra and geometry. Middle school students learn the basic principles of probability, fractions, rational numbers, ratios, mathematical equations and expressions. High school students are able to continue on with classes such as Algebra II and Trigonometry.

Keeping Informed: Recent Havre de Grace Educational News
- National College Fair - A National College Fair was held in Baltimore recently and was attended by students from the Joppatowne High School. The students included both juniors and seniors from Advanced Placement Program and the Homeland Security Program from the High School. The students were able to meet with representatives from colleges, trade schools, and universities. The Fair allowed students to gain more information about possible choices for their further education.
- Collecting for Those in Need - The Churchville Elementary School collected items for families in need in the county and for schools needing school supplies as a result of Hurricane Sandy. To make the event more fun, a new Jeep was provided by Adams Jeep of Maryland for students to hold all the donated items. The Parent Teacher Administration, the student council and the school administration worked to identify schools and organizations that were in need. Once the items were collected students started putting the toys, books, hats, mittens, gloves, food items and school supplies in the jeep. A ladder was needed to help stuff the last of the goods through the open roof.
- Book Fair and Family Night - Darlington Elementary recently held a Book Fair and Family Night event at the local Barnes & Noble store. The event helped to raise money to purchase books for the book room collection. At the event, teachers read children's stories and enjoyed cookies and milk for students, parents and patrons of Barnes & Noble.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!
We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire evening before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!
