Chalk Talk: Three Advantages of Technology-Rich Classrooms

There is no escaping the fact that technology has found it’s way into the classroom. With Smart Boards, iPads, online learning and virtual backpacks available in many districts, students have more ways to complete assignments, study and interact with teachers than ever before. There are three additional benefits of technology that cannot be understated. First, students who are issued laptops or iPads have far less weight to lug around. With textbooks and binders for three classes weighing over 20 pounds, students run the risk of injury carrying all that weight. Second, technology gives students greater latitude for self-expression. Rather than merely writing an assignment in a notebook, students can create audio tracks, videos or multimedia presentations to express their creativity. Lastly, technology gives students better ability to learn. Rather than relying on teacher lectures, kids can turn to educational websites or online encyclopedias to expand on what they learn in class.
