Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Helotes District Curriculum
Part of the Social Studies curriculum includes the study of Government. By learning about the formation of the United States Government students learn how to think critically. They also gain an understanding of the working of the government and the political systems throughout the United States. They read original documents like the Constitution and Bill of Rights to understand what rights the Founding Fathers were expounding, and discuss how these rights and laws are important and used in today's world.
The English curriculum at Northside Independent School District incorporates reading, writing and oral skills to help the students grow in each area. They read both fiction and non-fiction texts, and use them as models for their own writing. From the first years of school through graduation, the students use each of these items throughout their school day. This allows each of them to cultivate critical thinking skills while in this class so they can then know how to give oral presentations, read passages for information or research any topic that may be assigned.

Helotes District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs
Northside Independent School District follows the Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge curriculum which is a comprehensive elementary and secondary guide to student learning in each subject. The TEKS provides grade-level targets that students should meet in order to be proficient in each subject and prepared for their next year. Skills, knowledge, and concepts are all described according to the subject-area topics to which they relate, and through these expectations students have a solid foundation upon which to do advanced work in high school. The curriculum also describes the types of critical thinking, like mathematical reasoning or critical analysis, that students will do.
We currently cover the following Helotes-area school district: Northside Independent School District.

My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.
I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math or school for that matter!

Chalk Talk: Helping Children Learn to Participate
To help students learn how to join in with new activities, parents can show the importance of the activities that the child participate. Talk and listen to the child about their interests, help them find information on the topic and see if there are groups that the child can become a part of to help this interest grow. Before long, the child will begin to glow as they grow in their feelings for themselves and this will reflect in the rest of their lives. This is also a time in the child’s life when they begin to feel the pangs of separation. Parents need to listen to the concerns and validate them while reassuring them that college may begin as a challenge but will get easier. Finally, parents need to realize that worrying will not help anyone. Parents have raised their children to prepare for these experiences so enjoy it.
