Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Henderson District Curriculum
In English studies there is a District Literacy Plan in place. This outlines the standards for the areas of literacy for the City and District of Henderson. For instance, in the area of reading, standards are set for K to 3 for beginning readers. Then the advancement of skills is set for K to 12. The skills set for K to 3 are basic reading skills that are identified in the Plan. They include alphabet skills and understanding things written in print. More complex skills are developed in all grades up to 12.
Likewise, in Mathematics, there is a District Numeracy Plan in place. Core Mathematics expectations are outlined for each grade level. For instance, by grade 5 students are, among other things, expected to add and subtract fractions.
