Henryetta District and Curriculum

The Henryetta Public Schools believe in teaching analytical thinking skills to students along with understanding of complex concepts and real-world problem solving skills. The curriculum follows the Oklahoma Common Core Curriculum which emphasizes science and math literacy, strong humanities skills, and exposure to technical subjects.

We currently cover the following Henryetta-area school district: Henryetta Public Schools.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Henryetta District Curriculum

Henryetta High School holds rigorous expectations for each grade level while also providing support for English language learners and students with special needs. For example, in humanities classes, students learn research skills including citations and using examples from the text to support their arguments when writing analytical essays. Teachers are free to tailor their lessons to their students’ specific needs in order to provide opportunities for success to each student.

The hope with this curriculum is that students will become engaged and interested in learning and will take control of their learning so that they will be not only lifelong learners, but engaged in other areas in their lives. When they graduate, students should be globally competitive and ready to take part in our increasingly technical and diverse environment.

Chalk Talk: What Is a College Resume?

A college resume is a one-page reference for a student’s extracurricular activities. It is meant to be easy to scan and clearly show what a student has been engaged in, so dense text is a no-no. Resumes can take different forms, but should all follow the same, basic ideas. At the top of the page, centered, the student’s name, contact information, and GPA should appear. Below that, various activities should be grouped by themes. These themes should be significant and carry weight. For example, “sports” is an okay theme, but “leadership activities” is more powerful. Each activity should contain certain information: how long the student pursued the activity, when it happened, and a basic explanation of it. This explanation should be simple and straight-forward and approached more like bullet points. Students want this document to look and sound professional, it should highlight any unique achievements and emphasize key talents of the student.
