Chalk Talk: Restricted Early Action vs. Regular Decision
Restricted Early Action is one of the rarer types of college applications, offered by only a handful of schools. It’s an early application with deadlines as early as November. It’s not a binding application, so students aren’t asked to sign a contract in which they agree to attend that particular college. Instead, students are restricted from applying to additional colleges. Restricted Early Action demonstrates a commitment to the college applied to, and colleges look favorably upon students who are willing to apply this way. Acceptance rates are often higher for Restricted Early Action applications than for regular decision. It can be stressful for students to have to wait until a decision is reached to apply to other colleges.
