Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Idaho Falls District Curriculum
A rigorous approach employing high student accountability is used in district middle schools. Ample support is provided to the students to maximize academic and personal success as they prepare for the transition to high school. Students are required to frequently meet with teachers during comprehensive advisory periods, which research has shown to improve student performance, attitudes, and retention. Teachers for each grade work in teams to coordinate their curricula across subjects so the students can garner the most benefit from instruction.
High school students are offered a rich array of opportunities beyond the basics for graduation. Professional technical classes, Advanced Placement classes, dual enrollment classes, and extracurricular activities such as music, band, sports, and student government are available to enrich students’ educational experiences. District 91 features the innovative Compass Academy magnet high school. Its approach to learning uses a project-based approach to mentor students through employing key concepts across academic disciplines to come up with solutions to problems that apply to real-world situations.

Chalk Talk: Turning Homework in On Time, Every Time
Students of all ages have a lot on their minds, and parents can help them establish the self-discipline to assure that their homework and assignments make it to school. Many schools have computerized systems to help parents track their students' work schedule for each class. Taking the time to assure that completed work is placed in the student's backpack before he or she goes to bed the night before it is due and placing the backpack in a consistent place near the door are simple steps that can go a long way in helping school work get to its intended destination.
