Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Ingersoll District Curriculum

In subject of Science, the curriculum has expanded significantly over the years so that scientific learning also occurs in major program initiatives like the High Skills Specialist Majors and the Environmental Education Programs. At its core, the curriculum seeks to instill knowledge about biology, earth and space science, chemistry and physics, but as such a broad subject can also expand into next generation program offerings.

In English, the strands of learning revolve around reading, writing, communicating, and understanding media. These are taught through all range of text styles, instruction in different writing styles, a focus on language development and conventions, and opportunities to discuss texts and ideas. In Math, learning about numerical and algebraic operations, ways of analyzing quantitative data, measurement and shapes, linear relations are built upon so that students have the background with which to reason mathematically and logically.

Ingersoll District Curriculum Used in Our In-Home Tutoring Programs

The local schools use a curriculum which is designed to build student learning by laying out the progression of skills and content knowledge that students will acquire each year in each subject. The strands of learning within each subject stay the same from kindergarten through grade 12 and teachers introduce increasingly complex topics each year. With a curriculum that is 21st century-focused and which prepares students for the rigors of college and career, graduates have all the tools they need to be successful and productive members of society. They will have experienced using technology and innovating solutions with both technological and collaborative skills. They will also participate in community service to develop skills they will use in both their community and professional endeavors.

We currently cover the following Ingersoll-area school districts: London District Catholic School Board and Thames Valley District School Board.

Chalk Talk: How Can a Writing Tutor Help My Child?

A tutor can benefit a student in many ways; writing is one area in which the individualized instruction can be extremely useful. Many students lack confidence in their ability to write, however it is important to remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. Writing is a process, it is individualized, and best when aided by targeted reading and discussion. This can help broaden the thoughts which a writer will take to their essay and can be accomplished through a tutoring experience focused on the development of writing skills.
