Irvine District and Curriculum
The curriculum used in Irvine’s schools is a standards-based framework that organizes the subjects into major learning areas and the sub-skills that help to bring about proficiency in those areas. For English/Language Arts and Math, the schools follow the Common Core Standards which is also what the statewide assessments in English/Language Arts and Math are aligned to.

Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Irvine District Curriculum
In English/Language Arts the curriculum covers the skills of reading literary and non-fiction texts, the writing process, and other communication skills. The Math curriculum organizes a yearly progression in numerical operations, algebraic operations, geometry and measurement, and data analysis. This framework promotes critical thinking, problem-solving and other advanced thinking skills as students are on a path of deepening and extending their knowledge.

- Summer Enrichment Academy - Local area middle schools are now offering Summer Enrichment Academy's that provide a number of highly engaging course offerings. Students have the chance to distinguish their middle school record through a number of hands-on courses.
- The Africa Project - Students at Irvine High School are working with other students who are similarly civic-minded to understand what needs exist in Africa that they can help out with. This extracurricular project also offers a range of learning opportunities about African culture and history and community organizing more locally.
- SHINES Club - One extracurricular club at Irvine High School is the SHINES (Students Helping Inspire Every Student) Club which offers students a chance to participate in activities that mentor or tutor students who want a peer mentor.
