The high school algebra curriculum presents students with rigorous expectations in how to use expressions and equations and inequalities. Students learn how to interpret the structure of expressions and write them in order to solve problems. They also learn how to perform operations on polynomials and recognize the relationship between zeros and factors of polynomials. Working with equations, students become able to create equations that describe numbers or relationships.

The high school geometry curriculum contains a series of expectations that will prepare students for advanced studies in geometry and design principles. Students learn about congruence, work with transformations on a plane, and learn how to prove geometric theorems. They learn about theorems involving similarity and how to define trigonometric ratios. They also will use their background in algebra to work with coordinates to prove simple geometric theorems algebraically. Additionally, students use volume formulas and use them to solve problems.

Chalk Talk: Early Decision

Early Decision (ED) applications are binding college applications, which means that the applicants sign a contract agreeing to attend the college if accepted. Because they have early deadlines, Early Decision applications have higher acceptance rates than Regular Decision applications. Also, colleges tend to favor Early Decision applicants because of the applicants’ commitment to attend that college. Early Decision isn’t right for everyone, of course. Not every student will be ready to apply early, and committing to one college, especially early, can be tricky. For example, if a student is offered a better financial aid package at a different college, they are still bound to attend the Early Decision school if accepted.
