Educating Our Parents: Understanding the Jackson District Curriculum

From kindergarten through twelfth grade, students build an appreciation of literature through a wide variety of readings, across many time periods and genres. They are exposed to the written word not only through textbooks, but through fictional and non-fictional works presented through magazines, computers and books. They learn to write in different styles, such as persuasively, by discovering how to defend a point of view, first orally, then through the written word.

Since 2001, the Science program has been a part of the Urban Systemic Program, which was developed by the National Science Foundation. This program includes goals in the areas of Science, Mathematics and Technology. Jackson Public Schools offer a Science Fair which is opened to all students from first grade through twelfth. The students learn the parts in a scientific investigation by finding the problem to be solved, ways to gather their information, how to theorize, and then how to report on their findings.
